  • CHiQ B5U: Get the best value 4K UHD Home Cinema Laser Projector available!

Having a big TV up to 85" is great but sometimes you want to feel like you're going to the cinema with a 100" or 150" screen.

The new breed of Ultra Short Throw projectors such as the Chiq B5U from Changhong allow you to discreetly hide away the projector up against the wall (with zero installation) but at the same time allow you to enjoy a bigger 4K cinematic experience than even the largest TV.  So you can achieve almost double the normal screen size at a reasonable price (its cheaper per inch than a standard TV) at only £1899.

The CHIQ B5U is one of the most understated laser projectors with its ANSI Lumens and Contrast providing us with over double than what is stated on the specification, putting it as the best valued Home Cinema 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector on the market.

Check out these videos showing how understated the Chiq projector is and how bright it is in full daylight compared to it competitors.

The video compares the Viewsonic X10 projector in real non-photo-shopped conditions in the daylight and dark. These days its really hard to compare like with like in projectors especially in terms of lumens and general image quality without side by side comparisons like this Viewsonic X10 versus Changhon Chiq B5U.

Looking at the video it becomes clear the X10 is very overstated in terms of of lumens and contrast ratios as well as some other features. For example, the Changhong Chiq B5U shows only 1900 ansi lumens compared to 2400 on the Viewsonic X10.

Its contrast ratio shows the Viewsonic X10 at 3 million to one versus only 150k to one on the Chiq B5U. Yet when looking at the image compared side by side, the video shows the Chiq B5U has a far superior image despite on paper looking like the B5U is nowhere near as high a spec as the X10.

Its quite clear the Chiq has a far better image quality in terms of brightness and contrast / vibrancy of colour even in daylight. In fact in daylight its a superb spec thats worthy of comparable advertised lumens of 3500 - 5000 lumens such as the Optoma UHDZ65 UST.

Image Quality & Ultra Short Throw

The Chiq B5U is almost certain to give the WOW factor every time it is turned on with its gorgeous 4K Ultra HD Resolution.

The B5Us Ultra Short Throw feature projects a MASSIVE screen size of up to 150” (bigger than any 4K TV) from just inches away from the wall, making it much simply and cheaper to install and hide away in a cabinet up against the wall.

Images project in most lighting conditions and can achieve bright and clear images with the projectors high brightness of 1900 ANSI Lumens and contrast ratio of 15000:1. Also with the pure laser light source and wide colour gamut of ≥130% you can be guaranteed true and natural colours.

B5U also features an Eye Protection function to avoid accidental damages to your eyes. With its built-in sensor, when someone gets too close to the lens, the projector will shut down the light source temporarily (5 seconds) to avoid eye damage.

Get the best gaming experience when playing the latest titles such as Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare with the B5Us low input lag of around 45ms. See the CHiQ B5U in action playing fast motioned games such as: Formula 1, Street Fighter and Spiderman

Be able to project in almost any lighting condition with an Ambient Light Rejection Screen and achieve bright and clear images with the projectors high brightness and understated 1900 ANSI Lumens and contrast ratio of 15000:1. With the pure laser light source and wide colour gamut of ≥130% you can be guaranteed true and natural colours.

    4K Laser Home Cinema Projector

    Sound Quality

Whilst most home cinema afficionado's will connect external speakers to their projector, the Chiq B5U does actually have a better internal sound system than most projectors with its two 10 watt speakers built in.

You can easily connect to external speakers via Bluetooth.

Low noise is key for any projector and this one comes in at a relatively quite 30db helped by the laser light source which generally uses less power than a lamp projector.

    Connectivity

The B5U offers full range of connection ports including Ethernet, coaxial output, audio output, VGA audio Input, VGA input, 2 x USB 2.0, 2 x HDMI 2.0, built-in WiFi (5GHz/2.4GHz Dual Band) and built-in Bluetooth 5.0.

    What's In The Box

    1 x CHiQ B5U Projector
    1x Power cord (UK/EU)
1x Bluetooth Remote control (Incl. 2 x AAA battery)
    1x User Manual (English)

Warranty & Lamp Life: Hassle Free

It can be a worry when purchasing a new brand that you may not have heard of previously so its good to know that Changhong has been one of the top 3 brands of high quality TVs (and now projectors) and is a household name to millions across Asia.

As a lamp-free laser projector, the B5U offers over 25,000 hours maintenance free lifespan.

To back up the quality of the projectors, all Changhong projectors include a 2 year UK warranty as standard and a 5 year right to repair. The latter ensures spare parts are guaranteed to be kept for 5 years so it can always be repaired within that time.

In addition, this is serviced in the UK so there is none of the usual hassle of returning goods to China, paying huge postage costs or arguing with Chinese sellers over warranties.

Projection Distance & Smaller TV Cabinet

The Chiq B5U is one of the shortest ultra short throw (UST) projectors on the market with 0.21 to 1 throw ratio instead of the usual 0.25 to 1.

This shorter throw actually makes a big difference since the B5U projector requires the shortest distance to project the biggest screen eg B5U only requires 19.5cm for a 100" screen !

This has the advantage of not requiring a large or specially made TV cabinet/table with a larger depth for the projector. Other UST projectors with longer throw ratio >0.21:1 may need at least 40cm distance to project 100" screen, plus the depth of the projector itself requiring a a TV cabinet with the depth of at least 90cm which most TV cabinets/tables do not offer.

However, it also means you need a perfect flat wall or a flat projector screen to project the image, any slight curves on the wall will cause distortion as you currently got.

Keystone Correction & Fixed Frame Screen Requirements

Like most UST projectors, the Chiq B5U does not support keystone adjustment for a few very good reasons.

    1. No Keystone means improved image

Keystone is managed by digitally altering or cutting a projected image. This creates a  lower image resolution, leaves the altered part of the image slightly out of focus and creates grey shadows around the cut images. When this is magnified to large sizes and in 4k the image quality reduction is highly noticeable so its better to not have keystone.

    1. Manual Correction is better for UST projectors

As the distance between the projector and the wall/screen is so short you can more easily manually adjust keystone by adjusting the kickstand screws underneath the projector so a manual operation keeps the lens focus sharp.

    1. Uneven Walls are not cured with Keystone

If your wall is uneven, no end of keystone correction will assist it. Keystone adjustment will only adjust certain points in most of the cases, just the four or eight points of the image rather than iron out the multiple uneven points on most walls.

Hence the best option is always a tensioned or preferably fixed frame Ultra Short Throw Screen. If you’re on a budget then buy some rigid white MDF and mount onto that and cut it to size.

    Content: Amazon Fire Stick included

Stream all your favourite movies/videos on your preferred streaming app straight from the projector with the Amazon Fire stick  included with B5U.

    Conclusion

The ChangHong Chiq B5U has a wide range of features, connectivity and inbuilt TV content and is a perfect 4K projector for anyone looking to enhance their living space and enjoy a true cinematic experience at a very reasonable price .

PLEASE NOTE: The projector cannot be used with a soft screen or on a normal wall (see impact on this video). Therefore this projector must be used with a flat rigid fixed frame screen (preferable) or high tensioned UST screen. For example try this Ambient Light Rejection (ALR) Fixed Frame Screen with Chiq B5U projector included

  • A Native 4K Home Cinema Projector is here and it costs less than you'd think...

BenQ W1700 native 4K Home Cinema Projector

Plenty of 4K projectors boast about their eye popping picture quality but there is often debate over how well ultra HD images are digitally upscaled to 4k compared to a native 4k projector. The BenQ W1700 DLP CineHome Projector stands above the noise and proudly declares it's native 4k chip, offering an affordable true 4k option for consumers. This home cinema projector creates hyper-realistic cinematic experiences in native 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution at 2200 ansi lumens of brightness .

Such power in a projector that only weighs 4kg is certainly impressive but installation is made even easier with a 1.2 x optical zoom, vertical keystone correction and picture offset.

The Big Picture: HDR optimised for true-to-life visuals

Hyper-Realistic Video Quality is achieved with BenQ exclusive Auto HDR Color Rendition and Cinema-Optimised technology to balance colour saturation and rich colour scale, preserving dark details in total clarity.

Meaning he 4k projector is continually working to produce the best picture, frame by frame. This feature on a native 4k home cinema  projector would usually incur a large price tag but with the W1700 4k projector You can bring that Cineworld experience home for less.

The BenQ W1700 4K HDR Cinehome Projector is available from Personal Projector with UK Plug, Manual and Warranty.

  • Should you buy a 4k TV or a 4k projector? Where is the best 4k TV content?

One of the questions we are asked more and more at Personal Projector these days is should you buy a 4k TV or a 4k projector?

The lines are now blurring between the 4k TV and the 4k projectors with 4k projector prices now rivalling 4k TVs. Projector brightness levels are also improving and most importantly 4k content is also becoming more easily available.

What are the main differences between 4K TV versus 4k Projectors: Price, Screen Size, Brightness

According to a recent article by T3 4th August 2017, "this year, some 230 million televisions will be sold worldwide (pub quizzers take note, of which 50 million will be 50-inch plus UHD models. On a high-street near you, the fastest-growing 4K screen size is now roughly 43 inches. As we strive for larger, cinema style screens the option to upgrade to a 4K projector has never looked better."

Both the Acer H7850 and the Optoma UHDX550 4k projectors can project a 4K screen of up to 120-inches and beyond instead of 43", with built in sound systems to deliver an accessible cinema experience in your living room. Although we would still recommend they are connected up to an external home cinema audio system if you want the best 4k audio visual experience.

Some 4k projectors are also now cheaper than the 4k TV equivalents at only £1899 inc vat which is half the price they were 12 months ago.

Projector brightness has now also improved to around 3000 lumens on a 4k projector too meaning its perfect for viewing in normal light conditions without the curtains being drawn so you get the brightness and the cinema sized images in one package.

How easy is it access 4K TV/Cinema Content ?

There’s actually a huge difference between the various 4k paid TV content packages when it comes to the depth of their UHD catalogue. Here is a summary below of 4k content from the main providers in the UK via Sky, BT, Virgin, Amazon and Netflix.

In addition you can also obtain free UHD 4k content via YouTube.

How to find 4K content at a glance:

4K Content SKY Q BT YouView + UHD Virgin V6 Amazon Fire Box Netflix
Sports Sky Sports F1, Test Cricket, Premier League Football Champions + Europa League Football, Boxing, Rugby Stream through apps Stream through apps N/A
Movies Sky Cinema In Development Stream through apps Stream through apps Stream through app
TV and Box Sets Selected Box Sets On Demand Stream through apps Stream through apps Stream through app
Events Selected Festivals no no no no

UPDATE: 24th Oct 2018 Sky Q partners with Netflix means greater choice of HD and 4K content so nows the perfect time to invest in that ultimate home cinema such as the Benq W1600 UST.
    https://bit.ly/2Aqi0Nv

T3 tech magazine believe, "with 4k Cinema and 4k box sets on offer you can bingewatch shows in UHD, including The Blacklist, Fortitude and Riviera. If you’re watching live sports, 4K viewers will receive a prompt to switch to a UHD broadcast if it’s available. Sky offers the entire Formula 1 season in 4K plus Test Cricket and Premier League Football.

Currently, the headline attraction from BT is 4K football (Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and EUFA Europa League), but it also screens regular UHD boxing and Aviva Premiership Rugby in 4K (with Dolby Atmos audio, which makes a not inconsiderable bonus).

The latest set top box from cable giant Virgin TV, the ultra-compact V6, is 4K capable, too. Unfortunately, unlike Sky, Virgin TV currently does not offer any UHD content beyond Netflix and YouTube in 4K.

If you’re hoping to stream 4K Netflix or Amazon Video content from a separate mediaplayer, the best value is Amazon’s Fire TV box, priced at £80. This hooks up via HDMI and supports 2160p streams. Only the bigger Amazon Fire box offers 4K, the little Amazon Fire stick is HD only.

It’s also important to note that HDR from Netflix and Amazon is only available from apps integrated within a 4K HDR TV itself. It’s not (yet) available from outboard devices, like media players and Blu-ray decks."

Two Popular 4k Projectors: Acer H7850 and Optoma UHD550X

The main advantage of course in viewing 4k content on a 4k projector as opposed to a 4k TV is the supersized ultra lifelike, immersive images blown up to a huge cinema size as it was intended to be and these 2 models below do a great job at very reasonable prices.

The Acer H7850 4k projector delivers 4K resolutions with AcuMotion Frame Rate Enhancement to deliver sharper images during shaky or unstable moments in whatever you’re watching. Along this technology the brightness of 3000 lumens and built in speakers combine to provide a full cinema experience all in one box. This home cinema is available for £2,278.80 (Inc Vat).

    http://www.personalprojector.co.uk/acer-h7850-4k-uhd-projector.html

The Optoma UHD550X 4k projector goes one stage further than the Acer and provides a uniqe feature of vertical lens shift allowing you to bring the projector further or closer from the wall electronically ie without the need to move it which can be an advantage if you are restricted on where you need to place the projector.

The various adjustments on offer means this projector is also incredibly accessible, easy to install and connect. It even has a built-in gaming-mode, optimising your projector for lightning response times, maximum contrast and vivid colours to capture every detail. This versatile projector is available at £1899.99 which is less than some 4K TVs.

  • NEW: World's First DLP 4K Projector, Acer V9800

4K has been threatening to become the next big thing in the consumer AV world for some time now, however 4K projectors have always been too big, too complex and most of all too expensive to make much of an impact in the world of consumer electronics.

Thanks to Acer, that is thankfully no longer the case! In creating the first DLP 4K projector, the V9800, the electronics giant has made an effort to bring 4K projection down to an affordable price. With the V9800 being under £4,000 on Personal Projector, it's a fraction of the cost of other 4K projectors on the market which can easily set you back an eye-watering £45,000. That's a quite remarkable difference in price, but how does the performance measure up?

In a word: great! The Acer V9800 makes use of a single DLP chip, which, for the videophiles out there, means there won't be any issues regarding misaligned panels which can affect the image quality. This means you'll get "ruthless clarity" and "blade-like detail" (Home Cinema Choice Magazine, May 2017 issue) in every frame. What's more, it's HDR10 compatible, offering high image clarity with "HDR performance that is genuinely surprising for a projector" (HCC Magazine).

Make no mistake, the Acer V9800 is a big unit that requires a proper install, but once that's done you'll be able to witness the full power of 4K projection, complete with vibrant colours, deep blacks and unparalleled detail. If you've been looking to set up the ultimate home cinema system, look no further than the Acer V9800!

"This 4K DLP debutant delivers a sometimes stunning UHD HDR performance, aided by clarity and luminance★★★★ - Home Cinema Choice magazine

    #4. Outdoor Displays

Need a snazzy TV to work outdoors whether you need it for the yacht or to accompany the hot tub? These sleek outdoor TVs won't look out of place on a Sunseeker although you might need to sit down before you get the price so consider a projector screen that folds away if you need a more cost friendly alternative with a bigger image!

    #8 Amazing Light Shows

Waterfall Projection on a curve is eye popping. Its a bit like watching the Northern Lights and you simply cant take your eyes off these displays. Need to project onto a curved surface? Just call us on 0845 121 8800 and we can help create the perfect projection display.

    #9. Navigation

Need your satnav to get around? It’s commonplace these days but it can be distracting to keep looking down to your dashboard, especially in the winter months when you can face fog and ice! Projection can be used to project a Heads Up Display (HUD) of your dashboard directly onto a part of your windscreen, giving you your dashboard and satnav directions while letting you keep your eyes on the road.
